Week one: Under my better fitting belt!

Well, it's been just about a week now in Project: Antichunk and things are progressing well! I'm down 5 lbs and that's WITHOUT exercise! I really do need to incorporate that, however as if memory serves, the LDL (Lousy) Cholesterol is a smidge high. I didn't expect this to be the case, but temptation is EVERYWHERE!! I've cut off the beer consumption apparently at the exact WRONG time in my social calendar! I played Poker Last night at a friends house and I felt like Agnes the 68 year old bar fly drinking my vodka tonics at the end of the table. However it's all been worth it.

Current Weight - 190lbs
Still 5'8"... unless I've been sleeping funny...

My temptations this week:
White Chocolate Macadamia nut cookies. (DANGER!!) - My daughter ate these at lunch the other day and I almost ripped it out of her hand... seriously man, get a grip, they're not THAT good!

Rice: A HUGE no no on the first week of SouthBeach, especially the enriched rice as the enriching process takes most of the fiber out so that it cooks quicker. I did stray a little while having Sashimi with my sister the other night and I had a few mouthfuls of white rice... I'm not perfect!

McDonald's Biscuits: For years, my wife and I have started errand day (generally Saturday) with breakfast somewhere. As of late, a cheap breakfast that fits within the budget has been McDonald's. I did just what the diet said to do, grabbed two egg McMuffins (which are two for a buck by the way...) and ate them without the muffin part. Pretty good, although it's not that satisfying. I ended up picking off my daughter's plate as her appetite wore down... A little hashbrown, some pancake a half a biscuit. Again, a moment of weakness that I'm VERY consiously aware of. Ugh...

As previously stated: BEER... It's not something that I keep in the house generally and it's certainly not something I crave... but when I sat down to have my Sirloin burger, I couldn't help but think that it was missing something!

Generally speaking, the Southbeach diet is actually quite satisfying. They put snacks in that, although a little weird are actually pretty satisfying - Oddest yet has been the Cottage Cheese, Tomato and Cucumber concoction I ate today. It was OK, but not something I would have put together myself. The difficult part is actually planning for the meals. There have been a few nights where I apparently should have made stuff the night before, the Guspacho(sp)for example was one that should have been sitting all night as opposed to the 30 seconds before I threw it down my gullet. LOTS of Lettuce, some meat, it's actually been pretty good and the plates I put together, with very little effort have an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Again, cost is somewhat of an issue, but I think that in general, I'm not spending that much more than I usually would. The other issue I'm having is how much to buy. The recipes in the Southbeach book are built for several people... It's JUST me on this run so I'm going to have to plan more carefully as I progress forward.

Photos: None that I'll show you yet, but I took the Tony Horton P90X photos this week of my pasty white Irishness... I am a vision I tell you... (cue Wolf Whistle) I'll post these pics as I progress closer towards my goal. I've always said that I'd never get a tattoo as there's no part of my anatomy that I would want to bring attention to. These pics show why!

Well, I must press on to other things today, however week one has gone pretty well so far. Looking forward to kicking my own butt next week, resisting temptation and pushing to get the lbs off!

Good luck out there!

Rob
